*305. Telemedicine at VA Connecticut Healthcare System: A Hands on Demonstration

Objectives: The primary objective of this workshop is to demonstrate how telemedicine in the home setting improves health outcomes and quality-of-life of underserved veterans with complex chronic diseases. Using the Panasonic TeleCare Unit, workshop participants will learn to perform the following: (a) Obtain and transmit physiologic data, (b) interact with visual screen patient education programs, and (c) assess and manage data of a mock high-risk patient.

Activities: Attendees will participate in hands-on demonstration and perform the health-focused Panasonic TeleCare Unit functions: (a) physiologic monitoring for blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, EKG (single lead), heart/lung sounds, visual images, glucose level, pulse oximetry, and weight, (b) education module and responses, and (c) access and view transmitted physiologic data and education data.

Target Audience: Primary care providers, nurse case managers, and other healthcare professionals.

Audience Familiarity: Nurses working in Home-Based Primary Care Programs, primary care providers, and other healthcare professionals familiar with aspects of telemedicine.
